I want to work for the Malnosso. [It's written because she wants to say it, but she doesn't trust her voice.]

I want to be out of this enclosure, working for them. Especially on the battlefield. If they'd just let me, my knives are theirs.

I hate this waiting. Hate it. Sure, time to heal after the fight. Time to rest. But I know how this goes. How long it'll be before I have a knife in my hand for anything other than hunting. Before I get to really fight again.

I hate it.

Why can we just sign up? Go into battle and let that be that. Leave us there, provide supplies, die and come back again and again. I'm useful in a fight. Sitting around here? It's pointless.

Clove hasn't spent much time at the apartment. She's been holed up at the camp she established when she first came.

Tonight, for the first time since she got back, there's a fire. Plenty of kindling and proper logs, but also... ball and oval-like bits of wood being thrown in.

All the carving she'd done when Cato had been worrying about her? It's all going into the fire now. Burning.

It was stupid to do it. To pretend she could have something other than battle. She knows now, better than she did before maybe-- that's all she's good for.]

I understand where you are coming from, but what is the point of a constant sacrifice of death? Despite revival, it does not seem worth the outcome.

Protecting their facilities. The ones they're using to try and send you home, for one. Or capturing the enemy for them, rather than killing them. I'm not very good at that.

One mission I went on was to protect an outpost that made sure another enclosure kept getting food. Or is that not important? Should we just let everyone else starve, as long as we're safe and fed?

I never said it does not hold importance, I am just trying to understand your view point.

Back in my world, I was a diplomat. I've been around many people like you and the case you're speaking of is very different compared to the killing involved with war. The matter of personal survival versus the survival of larger groups hold different outcomes and, if it were possible, it would be easier to be rid of both in relational terms between countries. I am not a fool to think that world peace will ever fully and completely exist, but it's still not a lost hope to try and alleviate those messes with words and compromises instead.

If you were meant to battle without having to protect other enclosures, as well as out own, would you still do it? Would it still matter to you if there were not more lives endangered?

I'd enjoy it more.

No worries about having to keep something within view or not going too far to chase down an enemy. Just about the killing, about taking out any and every thing that got too close to me.

One less person who can kill me.

But there aren't people here in Luceti that want to kill you and people come back from the dead here. Is it really still enjoyable to you to kill someone just for them to return again?

That's why I kill people on the drafts and missions. The ones I'm supposed to kill.

But isn't there a difference between enjoying killing and being forced to?

I'm not forced to kill anyone. Everyone has a choice when they go on a draft or a mission. They can be non-combatants or they can fight. I kill for them because I choose to -- because I like it.

I guess I've always seen the drafts as being more of a kill or be killed kind of situation. Nothing I'd ever really look forward to doing.

Why do you want to be useful to them? Have they done anything to earn your service or loyalty?

Being stuck here... I understand that as much as I can when I've arrived so recently, I just don't know if working for the Malnosso is better. We're stuck either way.

They supply our food and shelter and supplies. Working for them is a way to repay them.

Later doesn't get you what you want. [MAN UP is the motto of pre-teen and adult ninja alike, so he's not seeing the problem.] Don't complain. Just do it.

I see it as a token of our friendship. I can put it in my room with all my other tokens of friendship. Therefore it holds sentimental value.

Do not immediately reject everything that does not stroke with the lifestyle your academy has taught you. It will not always apply to this environment, Clove. Or to the individuals who live here.

It couldn't hurt to offer. The Malnosso don't seem to discriminate between who wants to fight and who doesn't. If someone starts talking about how it's wrong to fight, ignore them.

[Peace is an admirable goal and one that Konan is striving for, but it's not something that can be obtained without being willing to fight for it.]

What about sparring with someone stronger than you? A person you wouldn't have to hold back from? [ There were types in Luceti that were powerful, beyond powerful even. ]

The experiments and the fighting they ask us to do aren't enough for that? They provide shelter, yes, but also captivity and very little information.

I appreciate the food, though.
